A Blackout Plate is a license-plate privacy device that uses an LCD (liquid crystal display) to let you change the plate’s appearance, effectively making the characters readable or unreadable at the push of a button on a remote. It’s designed so the user can switch the plate’s visibility on and off instantly.

Inside the device is a thin LCD layer aligned with your license plate. When the LCD is off it’s transparent and the plate reads normally. When the LCD is activated it changes optical properties (polarization/contrast), fully blacking out the license plate so standard cameras and the naked eye can’t read it. A small controller runs the screen and receives the remote signal.
